Gabrielle sighed as she was being driven home by her boyfriend of 6 months. She looked at her clock on her phone and she knew she was past curfew but that's not her fault. She had been ready to leave about an hour ago but her boyfriend had other plans. He had been angry with her, for what, she wasn't sure. But he had cornered her and kicked her to the ground and beat her for making him mad. She had been curled up on the floor, crying and shaking for a while and then she managed to get herself up and cleaned up. She didn't know how she was going to explain it to her mom but she would find a way to explain it to her. Her mom, right now, thought she was with her friends hanging out but she had a strict curfew of midnight and it was now almost 2 am. She was dead when she got home. She just hoped her mom wouldn't be up.
"You better give me a kiss goodnight," Her boyfriend snapped. Gabrielle leaned over and gave him a kiss which he forcefully deepened. Gabriella whimpered and she flinched when he stroked her cheek. Gabrielle quickly got out of the car and she walked calmly up the driveway. She unlocked the door and quietly opened it. She shut it behind her, locking the door shut. She hoped her mom wasn't awake. She didn't want her mom to see her until tomorrow when she would be able to hide the bruises. Gabrielle went into the kitchen to grab a glass of water for herself. She knew that it would be a hit or miss with waking her mom up but she was extremely thirsty.

Madeline looked at the clock. It was already one in the morning, and Gabrielle was not back home yet. She looked over Ben. He was fast asleep. Maddy had no idea how he was able to sleep right now. Then again, that man could sleep through anything. The woman let out a sigh. She got out of bed and walked to the bathroom. She washed her face before reaching for her silk dressing robe. Well, if she wasn't going to fall asleep, she might as well get some work done. Quietly, so not to wake her husband up, she grabbed her design portfolio. She needed to finish up a few sketches to present to some interested buyers anyways, and with awards season coming soon, she needed to be ready. She crept downstairs, grabbed a glass of water from the kitchen, and then proceeded to go to her study. She sat down and began sketching away.
An hour passed. She heard a car door open. Her ears perked up. Then she heard the front door open. She stood up and exited her office. She heard some rummaging around in the kitchen, so she figured that was where the intruder would be. But Madeline had a sneaking suspicion that this person was not an intruder at all. No, this had to be her daughter. Her daughter who was going to soon be grounded.
She stood in the kitchen's doorframe, glaring at her daughter over her glasses. "Gabrielle Elizabeth Parker," she said, her voice stern. "What are you doing out this late? You were supposed to be home two hours ago."

Gabrielle was hoping she would be able to sneak in and sneak up to her room. She didn't want her mom or dad to see her like this. Her face had a thin cut above her eyebrow and her stomach was badly bruised. It hurt to stand up for a long period of time and right now, her stomach was killing her. She didn't know how bad the bruises were but she hoped that they weren't really bad so she could hide them from her mom and dad. She sighed as she made it to the kitchen. She lent up against the counter, using it for support. She grabbed a glass from the cabinet and went over to the sink. She filled the cup full of water and she took a sip. The cool liquid felt good sliding down her parched throat.
Gabrielle could feel someone behind her. For a split instant, she feared that her boyfriend followed her inside. She jumped as she heard her mother's voice. She turned around and saw her mom standing there. She knew she was angry. "Momma... I'm sorry. My friends and I were studying late and then we ended up falling asleep. I woke up and had my friends mom drop me off as she got home from work," Gabrielle said hoping her mom would believe the lie. She also hoped her mom wouldn't be able to see the cut on her forehead. How would she explain that one to her mom? She would cross that bridge if it came to it.
