Ms. Foster, I understand you are interested in applying for Hawthorne Academy. I just have a few quick questions to ask you if you don't mind?
No, ma'am, I don't mind at all!
Well, then, let's begin. Why do you want to come to Hawthorne?
This school has been my dream for a very long time. My father went here when he was in high school. I have many older friends who have attending your institution, and they all love it. I know your curriculum is one of the toughest in the city, but I'm a hard worker, and I want to be pushed.
Excellent, We certainly try to push our students. So who would you say is your role model? And why?
Grace Kelly. She is so feminine and sophisticated, and a great actress as well. The way she conducted herself was inspirational for women. And I love so many of her quotes.
Could you give me your favorite one?
"I don't want to dress up a picture with just my face." This speaks so much to me because it tells me what kind of a movie star she was. She wasn't just interested in vanity and looking pretty, she was interested in capturing her soul and personality whether it be for film or a photo shoot. It's especially meaningful because during that time women were treated like property. For her to say something like that is really cool for women's rights.
Very true. So, what do you enjoy doing when you have spare time?
I try to go to the movie theatre during awards season so I can catch all the Best Picture movies. I also like to read, write, play the piano, and sing a little. I don't think I'm that great at singing, but I love to do it! I also like watching baseball games with my dad. I also like to bake. My friends tell me I make the best cupcakes.
If you come to Hawthorne, you'll have to bake me one! So what do you not like to do, Rose?
I love to play baseball, but that's about the only sport I'm good at. I hate to run long distance, and I find soccer very difficult because I'm not used to not using my hands to do things. I'm not the greatest at math or science. I much prefer English and other humanities courses. I mean, I'm alright at math and science, and I study, but I just don't enjoy them as much as other courses.
Do you happen to have a favorite memory?
Both of my parents would take me to the Museum of Natural History once a month. We'd go to see the space show and then walk around the museum. It was really fun. After I got into middle school, we stopped going which is sad. I guess you get too old for some things.
Yeah, it's hard to grow up sometimes. Do you have a favorite movie?
Rear Window. I think Alfred Hitchcock is a total genius when it comes to filmmaking. Honestly, I love anything directed by him, but Rear Window is definitely my favorite.
Favorite book?
I'd have to say The Hobbit. I read it when I was little, and there is so much nostalgia I associate with it. Just like I think Alfred Hitchcock is the master of film, I think JRR Tolkein is the master of writing.
Thank you for coming in today. You gave an excellent interview, anything you'd like to say?
Thank you for having me, I quite enjoyed it! I really do love this school very much. I know you don't take a lot of scholarship kids, but I really do think I'm a good candidate. I work hard and love to learn!
