My dad is Scottish and my mom is American, but they met in Ireland while vacationing with their families and got a married a year later. A few months before I was born, they moved to Rome for the romantic atmosphere. But when I was two my mom insisted I grow up in my dad's homeland, so they moved back to Scotland. I grew up there and had a pretty easy time in school. Sure there were bullies and there was tough homework, but for the most part I had friends and supportive parents. When I was five my parents had me learn French; from then on I was in love with languages. I'd listen to songs from all over the world and memorize them quickly. Soon my parents discovered I had a gift for pronunciation. In high school I discovered how much I loved theatre and I excelled in Spanish class. In my junior year of high school my parents told me they'd support any decision I made. I told them that I wanted to go to university in America because I'd always been fascinated by that country. They thought it was a great idea, so I applied to some universities I took interest in. I can't really say what made me come to Columbia, but something just told me it would be the best choice for me. Plus I have an aunt in America that I'm really close to, so I'd have some family near me. I'm an only child so it was rough for my parents to have their son so far away from home, but they were very proud of me. My dad and I are not embarrassed to admit that we cried when we said goodbye before I got on the plane to America. And call me a mama's boy, but I love my mom more than anyone in the world. She's shown me the traits I want in a girl who is going to be my wife, and she's taught me how to treat a lady. My dad also showed me how to be respectful and selfless and how to work hard. My parents really taught me most of what I know about life, and because of them I've learned to be more kind and caring than ever and willing to help others in need. I have to say that their relationship has shown me what marriage should really be, and I want a marriage like theirs when the time is right. I'd love to have a family someday, and I love kids. Because of the healthy lifestyle I grew up in, I never considered suicide and I've never struggled with depression. That isn't to say that puberty wasn't rough and awkward at times, but I was able to get through it. I don't care what others think about me, either. And if you're going to be my friend, you're going to know most things about me because I don't hold anything back. Except things that are extremely special to me and are only shared with people I'm extremely close to.
